Elvis

Austin Butler gives an amazing performance as the titular Elvis Aaron Presley, from his humble beginnings as a truck driver performing part time with band to getting discovered by the suspicious Colonel Tom Parker, played creepily by Tom Hanks. The rise and fall of Elvis under Colonel Parker’s influence and the mystery surrounding Parker’s life provides the film plenty to chew on.

From the first opening cut to a young Presley and his mom living in poverty and moving into an all black neighborhood to the closing scene of his passing and closing epilogue, Luhrmann crafts a scintillating picture that thoroughly entertains and is hard to peel your eyes away from.
